Our Healthy Knowsley Service can support you to make small changes to your lifestyle that result in a big difference to your health and wellbeing. The service will support you to set achievable lifestyle goals, allowing you to meet long term aims.

Our weight management services are for adults and pregnant people who live in Knowsley and/or are registered with a Knowsley GP.

Adult weight management

Knowsley residents aged 18+ with a BMI of 25–35 kg/m2 can access 1-1 coaching, a 12-week lifestyle course, physical activity sessions, or our Measure Up programme. Alternatively, our service can refer you to Slimming World groups in Knowsley.

Pregnancy pathway

Pregnant people and new mums with a BMI of 25–40 kg/m2 can access 1-1 coaching and/or a 4-week lifestyle course. We also work in partnership with Mamafit to provide physical activity support.

Referrals from a health professional
You can talk to your GP, midwife or other health care professional who can make a referral on your behalf.

Once we receive your referral, one of our Wellbeing Advisors will contact you by telephone to discuss the options available to help you to achieve your goals. We will listen to how you want to make the changes and give you information on the services that can best support your needs. You will choose the support that you need and we will then make an onward referral to a specialist service or to see one of our Wellbeing Coaches.

Our Wellbeing Coaches can support you with your weight management goals through 1-1 coaching appointments. We will discuss what changes you want to make and understand your existing diet and lifestyle. We can suppoort you to make changes to your diet, understand portion sizes, and create a portion plan.

How many appointments will I have?
You will have 3 appointments with a Wellbeing Coach. From there, you will either be discharged from the service or can be referred onto our lifestyle course, our Measure Up programme, or to further weight management support.

Our 12-week lifestyle group session can support you to understand:

  • Healthy eating habits - how to read food labels, fats, sugars and salts, portion sizes, tips for dining out or going to events, alcohol and more.
  • Physical activity - the benefits of physical activity, different types of physical activity e.g. 'home gym' and daily living activity.
  • Sleep hygiene - healthy habits you can practice during the day to help you get a good nights sleep.

How many session are there?
There are 12 sessions, one each week lasting for one hour.

Where are the sessions?
Sessions will be delivered in community venues in Knowsley. We will share this with you when you are referred to the course.

How do I join the group?

Measure Up is a 12-week weight management programme where you can get 1-1 support from one of our Wellbeing Coaches. You will have bi-weekly appointments with the Coach to discuss dietary support and setting small health goals, and how to stay on track with your goals and feel more motivated to improve your health and wellbeing.

You will also have 12-week access to your local Volair Leisure Centre to support you with physical activity.

There is criteria for access to this programme. If you have a long-term health condition, we will be unable to accept your referral for this programme. You will still be able to access weight management support via our service. Making Every Contact Count (MECC) is a one-off training session that lasts up to two-hours. It is designed to support professionals, volunteers, community groups etc. to have brief intervention conversations with individuals to be able to signpost or refer them into lifestyle services, which can support them to become activated in their health and wellbeing.

During the session we review tailored health and wellbeing information from the Knowsley borough. We discuss the benefits of healthy eating, the eat well guide, benefits and barriers to physical activity, and recommendations for how active we should be on a weekly basis.

We cover information on smoking and alcohol, and how to signpost to support services for these. Mental health, isolation and loneliness, and how to improve wellbeing is also covered within this session, to support you to recognise when people are looking for support and how to open a conversation around these.

You can access support during pregnancy and/or within the first 12-months following delivery with our Wellbeing Coaches and through a short lifestyle course, tailored to support you with healthy eating and physical activity. We can support you with your health and wellbeing so that you can support your family with theirs.

What's involved
You will have 2 x 1-1 appointments which focus on you as an individual, your understanding around healthy eating, pregnancy guidelines, and myth busting. We will support you to set and achieve your personal goals.

There are also 2 x goup sessions focused on practical support like recipe planning and ideas, and shopping list making. The groups sessions will explore healthy recipes during prgnancy, and family friendly recipes that can be used for weaning. Our group sessions are held in family hubs in Knowsley which will give you an introduction to other services available and a chance to meet other mums.

We also work in partnership with Mamafit who can provide you with physical activity sessions such as walking groups and pram walks, which not only support physical wellbeing but can support mental wellbeing through socialisation and meeting other people.
