Looking after your wellbeing is one of the most important things you can do for your overall health and happiness
Small, positive changes to your daily routine can have a big impact on how you feel, both physically and mentally. In this article, we'll share 10 simple and practical tips to help you boost your wellbeing, reduce stress, and feel your best every day.
1. Your relationships matter most
The strongest predictor of a long, happy life is the quality of your relationships. Make time every day to truly connect - whether that’s lunch with a colleague, a day out with friends, or joining a local group.
2. Try to be active every day
Moving your body boosts your mood and brain. Aim to be active daily - even 10-minute bursts count. Exercise doesn't have to be intense. Walking, stretching, yoga, or dancing around your kitchen all count! Join a gentle exercise session at The Life Rooms, like Sit Fit, Get Your Groove On, or short walks – check out our timetables for Walton and Southport.
3. Stop and notice the positive
Take a moment to be present. Notice people, nature, your surroundings, thoughts and feelings. Practising gratitude and being present can boost your mood and deepen self-awareness. Try writing down a few things you're thankful for each day – it can help shift your mindset towards the positive.
4. Keep learning
Learning new things can boost confidence, self-esteem and purpose. Try something that’s new and interests you - a new recipe, how to fix something or a new game. You can also do other challenges such as games and puzzles to keep your mind active and occupied. Try one of our Board Game Social or Mindful Puzzle sessions for a fun and friendly introduction to something new.
5. Be kind and give your time
Giving kindness boosts wellbeing and satisfaction. Small acts of kindness count - making someone a cup of tea, asking someone how they are – and really listening, or lending a hand.
6. Make time for self-care
Looking after yourself helps you feel your best. Take time to rest, recharge and do the things you enjoy. Whether it’s a bath or long shower, skincare, journaling, or a cup of tea in peace, small daily rituals can make a big difference.
7. Get a good night’s sleep
Quality sleep is essential for your wellbeing. Aim for enough rest for your body and mind to recharge – wind down before bed, avoid screens for an hour, and keep your room dark, quiet and at a comfortable temperature.
8. Eat nourishing foods
Eating a balanced diet supports your energy, mood and overall health. Aim for a variety of foods – plenty of fruit and veg, wholegrains and a mix of protein, dairy and healthy fats. Limit food high in saturated fat, salt and sugar. Our Key Health Messages: Healthy Eating course is the perfect start to understanding how what we eat and drink can affect our wellbeing. 9. Focus on what you can control
Letting go of what you can’t control reduces stress and worry. Put your energy into what you can influence – this builds positivity and helps you take action.
10. Check your thoughts
Not every thought is a fact! Ask yourself – is this thought a fact or just my opinion? This exercise can help reduce stress and bring a more balanced, calmer perspective.
