July's spotlight partner - Liverpool Philharmonic
Liverpool Philharmonic has been working with Life Rooms since 2016 delivering a wide range of music courses that support people in their wellbeing and creativity; in an inclusive, fun and creative learning environment.
The partnership with Life Rooms forms part of Liverpool Philharmonic’s Music and Mental Health programme which has been running for 13 consecutive years in partnership with Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust. Our musicians use the power of music to improve the mental health of the city’s residence. Liverpool Philharmonic aims to create a city region where anyone experiencing mental ill-health can access and benefit from music to aid their recovery.
Since October 2020 we have delivered nine six week courses with Life Rooms online, with each session lasting an hour. The courses include an opportunity for Life Rooms members to design and shape the course content in a Coffee and Co-Creation Concert, where Life Rooms members can respond to live music and discuss their musical ideas. Each of our online courses culminates in a Sharing and Celebration Event at the end of the course, giving Life Rooms Members a chance to share their achievements and musical/artistic creations.
Our courses are led by a team of musicians from Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and supported by a Life Rooms Learning Facilitator. Some of our past courses have included; Supersing- a chance for people who haven’t ever sung before to sing some classical and popular favourites as part of a choir, Exploring Music Through Colour- an interactive course where Life Rooms Members explored musical and emotional responses to colour and DIY Desert Island Disks; where the group researched and discussed songs and pieces of music which have made-up the soundtrack to their lives.
Liverpool Philharmonic also hold regular Feedback Sessions online, where Life Rooms Members can contribute to the design of new courses and reflect on how they have found participating
Previous attendees to our courses have said the courses are:
“For anyone and everyone, no matter how you feel about music”
“I feel better having something interesting and creative to attend, and looking for things to contribute each week”
